KINGS OF MACEDON. Antigonos II Gonatas, 277/6-239 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 30 mm, 17.17 g, 3 h), Amphipolis, circa 274/1-260/55. Horned head of Pan to left, wearing goat skin around his neck and with lagobolon behind; all within the center of a Macedonian shield adorned with stars and crescents. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ - ANTIΓONOΥ Athena Alkidemos striding left, seen three-quarters from behind, brandishing thunderbolt in her right hand and holding shield decorated with aegis on her left arm; to left, facing Macedonian helmet with transverse crest; to right, monogram of HΛ. HGC 3.1, 1042. Panagopoulou, period I, 86g (this coin, O26/R82). SNG Ashmolean 3258-9. SNG Copenhagen 1199. SNG Fitzwilliam 2304 (same dies). Attractively toned and perfectly centered. Minor marks on Pan's cheek, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
